Hormone Replacement Therapy (Prempro)

Prempro is a hormone replacement therapy manufactured by Wyeth Pharmaceutical and used to alleviate menopausal symptoms. Prempro may increase a woman’s chance of heart disease, breast cancer, stroke, blood clots or dementia. The drug also may cause an increase in abnormal mammograms, even when no tumor is present. Women who take Prempro or other combination hormone replacement therapies may need more frequent mammograms. In addition, a long-held medical belief that Prempro and similar drugs might prevent osteoporosis is now being questioned.
